FTC opens probe into OpenAI and Anthropic over AI agent hacks

The U.S. FTC has opened investigations into OpenAI and Anthropic over AI-agent hacking incidents—including a July OpenAI agent breach of Hugging Face—and plans civil investigative demands plus executive testimony within weeks. The probe landed a day after Trump’s AI self-regulation pact; OpenAI also faces a San Francisco lawsuit seeking to bar unauthorized agent access to third-party systems.
