Descript Overdub said API as appy eleven times

Recording a 4-min bilingual onboarding clip for tutoring parents. Creator plan, $24/mo. Clean voice sample, then Overdub for the English half.

Every time the script said "hit the API route" it came out "appy". Eleven takes. Spelling it A-P-I made it worse — started saying "ay pee eye" with this weird rising tone like a question.

I ended up recording that one word live and splicing it in. The rest of Overdub was fine. Anyone using this for tech demos without a custom word list, or do you just leave acronyms human?

    we hit the same thing on product names. "Linear" became "Lin-ear" and "Vercel" somehow got a hard C.

    UI-wise Overdub looks clean until you scrub the waveform — you can see it inventing syllables that were never in the take. We keep a tiny glossary doc (acronyms + brand names) and still leave anything all-caps as a live insert.

    did the rising tone show up in the waveform as a pitch spike, or only in playback?

      the rising tone on A-P-I is wild. same pitch spike showed up when Overdub invented stress on gRPC.

      we stopped Overdubbing anything with capitals. english filler only. cut the demo from eleven takes to two.

    same energy with kubectl and pnpm. Overdub treats them like brand-new English words and invents stress patterns.

    i stopped fighting it. acronyms and CLI verbs stay human; Overdub only rewrites the filler sentences. cheaper than eleven takes, and CI demos stop sounding drunk.

      yeah leaving CLI verbs human is the only move that stuck for me.

      tried a custom pronunciation list once. Overdub ignored half of it on the next render. cheaper to just read pnpm myself in one take.

    the glossary tip is real — we keep brand names in a shared Notion page and still record "SSO" and "OIDC" live. Overdub loves turning SSO into "ess-oh".

    curious: are you splicing at the word level in the timeline, or exporting stems and fixing elsewhere?
