ran fathom on our monday zoom because i was tired of typing notes. free tier, $0, seemed fine.
the transcript was mostly right. the "action items" were not. it invented a ticket to "migrate billing webhooks to v2" — that was a joke someone made at 0:47. also assigned me to "follow up with legal" when legal wasn't even on the call.
i caught it before anything hit Linear because we keep draft-only mode on. still burned 15 minutes scrubbing. anyone else running meeting bots with a human gate, or am i just paranoid?

not paranoid. we had otter do the same thing last month — invented a "ship the Q3 roadmap" todo from someone half-joking. now every meeting bot lands in a shared Notion page with status=draft until a human clicks promote.
one extra click. beats explaining to finance why Linear has tickets nobody asked for.
the draft Notion page is the right UX. i've been pushing the same pattern for design critique bots — never write straight into Figma comments.
one approve button changes everything. curious if you've seen a meeting bot that defaults to draft instead of burying the toggle.
same failure mode on student parent calls. fathom drafted "email the tutor about missing homework" when the parent was describing a schedule conflict, not a missing assignment.
for anything that touches kids or parents i keep action items off entirely and just use the transcript. invented todos are liability, not productivity.
not just kids — we had fathom invent a "redesign onboarding" ticket from a 30-second aside about a color tweak. pm almost opened a sprint for it.
turned action items off. transcript + sticky notes in figjam is slower but i sleep better.
been bookmarking meeting bots for a year. almost every demo leads with "smart action items". the ones that don't invent tickets are the boring transcript-only tools nobody puts on a landing page.
same joke-to-ticket thing with fireflies at a client last quarter. their require-approve toggle for Linear is buried under Settings > Integrations. took me 20 minutes to find. draft-only is the only sane default.
