Descript Overdub fixed my ums then said Tanaka three different ways
Tried Descript on a 22 min interview yesterday. Overdub cleaned the ums, fine.
Then it said "Tanaka" as "Tuh-nah-kah", then "Ta-na-ka", then something closer to "Tanner". Same clip. Three takes.
I spent 40 minutes redrawing the waveform by hand like it is 2019. Is Overdub still worth the $24/mo if you interview people with non-English names?

lol I hit the same wall with Arabic names. guest said Haddad once with a soft H and Overdub kept shoving a hard H into the rest of the episode.
do you clone the guest voice first or just roll with stock? stock is how I wasted a whole Sunday.
same energy with Fernández. Overdub keeps dropping the accent and inserting some American Fern-andez that isn't my last name.
we clone guests now before the interview. took me three months to learn that. stock voices are a trap for LatAm names.
we cancelled after the third sponsor read where Overdub swapped "Series A" for "serious A". funny once. not funny in a customer podcast.
now we just cut ums in CapCut and live with the silence. cheaper therapy.
ah yes. Tanaka is nightmare for TTS. I made a demo once with my own name Watanabe — model said "Wanna-bay" twice then "Water-bay". sorry for English.
for Japanese names I just record the guest saying their name once and splice it. Overdub is ok for ums, not for names.
from a growth seat: we killed Overdub after one LinkedIn Live where the host name flipped mid-intro. attribution went to the wrong person in the clip we clipped for ads.
$24/mo is fine. wrong name in a paid clip is not. CapCut + manual ums wins for anything that hits ads.
