Open-source voice dictation for macOS with on-device transcription
Yap is a macOS voice dictation app that works in any text field. It runs in the menu bar, starts and stops recording with a keyboard shortcut, and pastes the transcript into the app you are using.
Transcription is performed on-device with Apple's Speech framework, with no account, API key, cloud processing, or audio leaving the machine. Transcripts are saved locally for later copying. Yap is available for macOS 26 (Tahoe) on Apple Silicon Macs.
It can be installed from the Yap website, through Homebrew, or from a release DMG. The default shortcut is ⌘⇧D and can be rebound.
