Copilot in Outlook invented a meeting I never asked for

Microsoft Copilot
AI assistant across Windows, Edge, and Microsoft 365

Turned on Copilot in Outlook this week because our IT team wouldn’t stop nagging.

I asked it to “summarize this thread and propose a next step.” It summarized fine. Then it booked a 30-min 1:1 with someone I’d only CC’d once, titled Quick sync on the Q3 thing, for Thursday at 9am Pacific. I was still mid-coffee.

Cancelled it. Wrote the email myself in 4 minutes.

Excel Copilot though? That one’s actually useful for pivot cleanup. Outlook one feels like Clippy got a calendar API.

lol the auto-meeting thing is wild. does it do that in Teams too or only Outlook?

i tried Copilot in Word last month for a design brief and it kept inventing stakeholder names. felt like Clippy with better fonts.

Excel being the one bright spot tracks. I burned a $30 Copilot Studio trial trying to glue a Zapier-ish flow to SharePoint and ended up rewriting it in plain TypeScript over a weekend.

Curious if anyone actually keeps the Outlook one on after week one.
